Lisle High School sophomore Xander Ferari headed to the Class 1A state wrestling final tournament at the State Farm Center in Champaign-Urbana on Thursday, February 15.
Ferari had an accomplished season, finishing with a regular season record of 30-5. This led him to become an All-Conference wrestler and earn the title of Illinois Central 8 (IC8) Conference Champ in the 120-lb. weight class.
He advanced as the regional champ in post-season meets. At the Byron Sectional, Ferari placed third. As a result of these accomplishments, he entered the state tournament ranked 6th.
The Lisle drumline paraded through the halls with Head Coach Brandon Wolak and Ferari for a ONEPRIDE state send-off Thursday morning.
Ultimately, he finished this season with a record of 30-7, bringing his overall high school career record to 60-17. Wolak said to have a wrestler rack up 60 wins in the first two seasons is commendable.
Each year Ferari has breakthrough moments, as a freshman he was a sectional qualifier and this year he advanced to state. Undoubtedly, the Lions will lean on his experience and leadership next season.
